Subject: Passengers’ baggage---screening

While examining a VIP reference it has come to the notice of the Ministry that at Mumbai Airport 15-20% passengers, arriving from sensitive airports and walking past the Green Channel were made to undertake baggage screening. This is reported to be causing a lot of inconvenience to the passengers. Besides, this defeats the very purpose for which Green Channel facility was created.

2.        The matter has been examined. The Ministry is of the view that such a high percentage of screening may not be necessary for passengers walking through the "Green Channel". Instead, the field formations should intensify their intelligence and surveillance system of passenger profiling to ensure that only suspect passengers, and frequent short-visit passengers are diverted from the Green Channel.

3.        The action taken in this regard may please be intimated to the Board at an early date.
