Pre allotted IEC Numbers for Specified categories-No need to take seperate IEC by these people

Attention is invited to the provisions contained in paragraph 4.6 of the Handbook (Vol. 1) which lays down inter-alia the categories of importers/exporters exempted from obtaining Importers-Exporters code (IEC) number. From 1st July, 2000, all importers/exporters shall be required to have a validated IEC number failing which no consignment shall be allowed by Customs.

In exercise of powers conferred under paragraph 4.11 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002, as notified in the Gazette of India extraordinary, Part-II-Section 3 - Sub-section (ii) vide S.O. No. 283(E) dated 31.3.97, the Director General of Foreign Trade hereby makes the following amendment in the Handbook of Procedures (Vol.1)(RE-2000), 1997-2002. The following shall be added as sub-paragraph (vi) in paragraph 4.6 of Chapter-4.

           (vi)  The following permanent IEC numbers shall be used by the categories of importers/exporters mentioned against them for import/export purposes.
